LAKE PORTA

LAKE PORTA

A protected natural area nestled between the Apuan Alps and the Versilia coastline.

Lake Porta is an ideal spot for those wishing to immerse themselves in nature, in a peaceful and quiet setting. The roughly 4 km loop that surrounds it can be explored on foot, by bike, or on horseback, passing through reed beds, willow woods, rushes, black alders, wet meadows, and various watercourses. Along the way, there are informational panels that describe the unique features of the protected area. The flat path runs partly along the banks of the lake, the Montignoso stream, and the Versilia river, and partly on a dirt trail.

Nature and Wildlife

In this small natural paradise, you can admire not only the flora but also a wide variety of fauna.
Throughout the year, it’s possible to observe around 100 different species of birds, including the very rare Heron found in only a few places in Europe, or the Marsh Harrier.

There is also a significant presence of reptiles and amphibians, such as frogs and turtles.

When you visit Lake Porta, you’ll also see various fishermen along the tributaries, fishing for Carp and Pike
