LE CINQUE TERRE

LE CINQUE TERRE

The Cinque Terre in Liguria is one of the most stunning natural areas in the Mediterranean, defined by its 18 kilometers of rugged coastline, featuring bays, beaches, and deep waters. Renowned for its rich natural heritage, the region is bordered by a mountain range that runs parallel to the coast, offering hiking paths and trails with breathtaking views.

Over the centuries, terraces of vineyards and olive trees have been meticulously constructed on this steep landscape, using a unique agricultural technique to make the most of the land that overlooks the sea. These now-iconic terraces create one of the most distinctive and captivating landscapes in Liguria.

The five ancient villages, perched on the cliffs between the land and the sea, are:

  • Riomaggiore
  • Manarola
  • Corniglia
  • Vernazza
  • Monterosso al Mare

The Cinque Terre offers more than just scenic seashores. It features hiking trails through the hills, walks through the picturesque villages, boat trips, visits to local sanctuaries, delicious regional cuisine, and top-tier wines.

How to Reach the Cinque Terre

Hotel Storyville is located just 50 km from Riomaggiore.

By Train
To avoid traffic and parking hassles, we recommend our guests take the train from Massa. Multiple trains run along the Pisa-Genoa line, providing easy access to all five Cinque Terre villages. Several Intercity trains also stop at Riomaggiore and Monterosso.

By Car

  • To Monterosso al Mare and Vernazza: Exit the motorway at the Carrodano-Levanto toll booth (Genoa-Livorno A12), then follow signs for Levanto and Monterosso al Mare.
  • To Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore: Exit the motorway at La Spezia and follow signs for Cinque Terre along the panoramic coastal road (SP 370).

Getting Around the Cinque Terre

By Train
Local trains run frequently (every 40-60 minutes) from La Spezia station, stopping at all five villages.

By Boat
During the spring and summer months, you can reach the Cinque Terre by boat from Forte dei Marmi or Marina di Massa. There are daily sea connections from La Spezia, Lerici, Porto Venere, and Portofino, with the final stop at Monterosso.

On Foot Between Sky and Sea
The Cinque Terre’s popularity is largely due to its dense network of trails, which wind their way across the sea-facing slopes of the mountain range. Please note that hikes within the Cinque Terre National Park should only be attempted in favorable weather conditions, with proper footwear, and by individuals with suitable hiking experience.
