PUNTA CORVO

PUNTA CORVO

The allure of a hidden beach nestled in a rocky enclave, the thrill of reaching Punta Corvo on foot.

Punta Corvo Beach, which translates to Raven Cape Beach, gets its name from the distinctive black color of the tiny pebbles that make up its shoreline, set between the green mountains and the blue sea. The path leading to Punta Corvo winds through the lush greenery of the Mediterranean scrub, mostly shaded, which eases the hike.

HOW TO REACH PUNTA CORVO

Punta Corvo is not easily accessible; located between the hills and the sea, the cove is situated in an area that cannot be reached directly by car.

If you prioritize comfort, this beach might not be for you, and we suggest considering other nearby beaches.

However, if you are a trekking enthusiast and enjoy the sea, then this destination is a must! Here’s how to access this Ligurian cove surrounded by Mediterranean scrub:

By Car
Exit the highway at Sarzana or alternatively at Carrara, then follow the signs for Ameglia (SP28). Once in the municipality of Ameglia, follow the directions to Montemarcello. Montemarcello can be reached either via Bocca di Magra (via della Pace – SP29) or through the village of Ameglia. Once you reach the village of Montemarcello, you can easily park your car. From the parking lot, walking towards Lerici, you’ll first pass a bar-restaurant called “Locanda della Nonna,” and a little further ahead, you’ll find the bar “Il Giardino.” At this point, turn left onto “Via dei Marchi di Don Calisto.” Continue on this road, passing two forks. At the second fork, turn right and follow the signs for the trail.

The trail is not recommended for children or the elderly. If you fall into one of these categories but still want to visit, we strongly suggest taking the boat service instead.

By Ferry
Punta Corvo is easily accessible by boat. The service is available throughout the summer season from both Fiumaretta and Bocca di Magra. Reaching Punta Corvo by boat is a delightful experience; as you leave the Magra river mouth, you can enjoy stunning views of the coastline, beaches, and coves—a truly unique spectacle!

The hike is somewhat challenging as you need to follow the Cai Trail 436 from Montemarcello, which consists of around 700 steps (the descent isn’t difficult, but the ascent is the real challenge!). It’s definitely worth the effort. We took 40 minutes to climb back up, frequently stopping to photograph and film along the way.

The beach can also be reached by boat from Fiumaretta and Bocca di Magra. The water at Punta Corvo is among the clearest in the area, but be cautious as the seabed becomes deep just a few steps from the shore.
